In Brief
- The ergonomics world congress is held only once every three years.
- In 2012 the congress will be held for the first time in Latin America: in Recife, Brazil, from February 12-16, a week before Carnival.
- Five days with the most recent information on ergonomics, and a market place to meet ergonomists and users of ergonomics.
- About 1,500-2,000 participants, 13 keynotes, several interactive workshops, hundreds of papers.
- All congress papers will be indexed, contain linked references, citable DOI numbers, and will be published as a supplement to the journal, WORK: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment & Rehabilitation (IOS Press).
- Organized on behalf of the International Ergonomics Association by the Congress Organizing Committee, in collaboration with the Brazilian Ergonomics Association and the Union of Latin-American Ergonomics Societies. The IEA is the world’s forum for ergonomics, representing about 20,000 members from 50 different countries.
- Entertaining daily social events after congress sessions which will include presentations by folkloric groups and the possibility of your taking part in Brazilian Carnival, one of the largest street festivals in the world.
Congress Venue
The congress will be held in the Pernambuco State Convention Center, located between the cities of Recife and Olinda. It is located only 12km away from the Recife International Airport.

Pernambuco State Convention Center
The Pernambuco State Convention Center is the best option to organize events in this part of the country. It has received a large number of big congresses with highlighting the health area. This Convention Center has the capacity to receive more than six thousand seated people in two theaters, four auditoriums, 22 convention rooms, and a large pavilion to organize exhibitions. This is the right place to organize workshops, seminars, and cultural shows. The access is easy, between the cities of Recife and Olinda, to nearby shopping centers and malls, parks, and the Recife International Airport within 12 k. The Convention Center also has parking for 2,500 cars. Taxi and tourist information is available in the convention center.
